About this tool
Whether you are writing an essay, a blog post, a social media caption or a product description, you usually have a length target to hit. This word counter gives you live statistics while you type or paste: words, characters with and without spaces, sentences, paragraphs, and the estimated time it takes to read or speak the text.
Reading time is calculated at an average adult speed of 200 words per minute, and speaking time at 130 words per minute, which is a comfortable pace for a presentation or a voice-over. These are estimates, but they are useful for planning a talk, a video script or the length of a newsletter. The character count with spaces matters for platforms with strict limits such as meta descriptions, SMS messages, ad headlines and many social networks, while the count without spaces is often used by translators and academic submissions.
The keyword density table lists the words you use most often and the percentage of the text each one represents. Writers and SEO specialists use it to spot accidental repetition and to confirm that a target phrase appears naturally and not too often. You can hide common stop words such as "the", "and" and "of" to see the meaningful terms only.
The counter understands Unicode, so it works with accented letters and with languages such as Urdu, Arabic and Hindi. Like all tools on this website it runs locally in your browser; your text is never uploaded or stored.
